Could you explain what exactly does this z_ofs and extra_z_ofs does in the TMP (TS) files?

As far as I could see, it points into a position inside the 576 bytes of image, close to the end, but technically inside it. At least in the first frame from ramp01.tem (Tiberian Sun). According to what I could see in XCC TMP Editor, the cell is in a high height, but all pixels from it are in the same height... that makes me wonder, why z offset if z (depth) doesnt vary at all? Specially if the height changes are represented by the extra image from the frame than the main image part... but both main image and extra image have a z offset O.o...
