hmmm.
what do you think of this approach?

We know that the light (that is what the normals are used for) comes from the lowerleft corner of your screen.
It also has a , yet to determinating, angle to the XY plane.

A normal, perpedicular to direction SWNE and perpendicular to the XYangle, should produce the brightest RGB intensity.

Using that as a reference point, it must be posible to extract the corresponding indexes for the up/down angle...then followed by the indexes that are rotation sensative...

but...first thing to do, is build up my spreadsheet with the data :)
