I can help with both these problems!!!!
First, make sure 'multilanguage support' is installed from the Windows CD
Then when there is some of that vowels and slashes gibberish, goto 'View'=>Encoding=>cyrillic and the gibberish will change into Russian.
First bit solved, you can see Russian. Now to understand it.
Open a new IE window, anf goto http://www.okanagan.com/translate/italian.htm
and copy the text into there, select Russian to English, and then read what they said!!!

You may have noticed that in other threads I've been responding in German, or sometimes Spanish to what ppl have said, well, now you know how! My secret is out! :-(

Now you can understand what raminator is saying! :-)
