sorry, just can't resist this...:)
The base concept of Copyright is indeed what you discribe.
BUT
you forgot an important aspect:
You can only get copyright as long you're work is original and obtained in a legal way.
This means that anything you make or create that is based on reverse engineering (an illegal action) can't be claimed with "copyright" rights.
Most of you use the word "copyright" out of its legal context waaaay too often.
"Ownership by" , "created by" or "made by" would be far more appropriated then the law enforced word "copyright".
