Are we being attacked with hackers on a denial of service flood?

I have had hackers try and get into my computer to do such a thing and I believe it all started when I played someone who didnt like me beating them even though they were cheating.

The person said "I will get you in other ways"

Since then I have had loads of different servers across the internet trying to attack my computer, a few succeeded, I got ride of them then learnt to adjust my firewall to keep them out.

What are your thoughts?
