It was XP.
Whenever you pressed Alt, Ctrl, or any such key a little dialog box appeared saying that this was very important and I should definitely view it. Ctrl+Alt+Del did do something, but on XP's the taskmanager isn't always on top (ie it can be minimized or hidden behind another window), thus the ad managed to keep it hidden.
