Until the last beta version, it used to write all files only with compression 1. Yesterday I managed to make the program write shps with compression 3 correctly (at least aproven by XCC :p ), but I havent released it yet because I found out a bug when loading "unoptimized shps"... (Basically SHP files using compression 3 that would be smaller if they used compression 1, like cameos).
