> Then this is a point where we differ in a fundamental manner : I prefer a place that is small, focused and with content then a place that is large, vast and with tons of redundant topics.
well, when we differ, we differ.
I'd rather go somewhere with people, rather than a techo-no-mans land.
> I see your point..but you're wrong that there are only 7 interesting topics.
i discounted anything started by reapr, and that left about 7 topics..
> It is not because I don't reply to a topic that I don't consider it a "vallid" posting.
nor do i, i do consider the ra2 normals topics valid, but i havent posted to them
> However, repetedly filling up replies with "???","!!!" or similar retared remarks do not qualify as valid...
you dont have to read it..
> euh, kidnap a forum? You must be joking. This is the home page and forum of RA2's most important editing tools. That you'll find more technical chitchat, as you refer to, is obvious. I would expect that the main topics concern the XCC tools and modding in general...
what you'd expect ands what is here ar different things. if you go look at previous topics over the entire history of this site, you'll find very few real technicl posts.
most "on topic" posts here are "my xcc is broken, fix it" and "it wont work, why!?!?!?!?!"
you cant seriously expect to carry out serious technical research on a public forum, where most people cant install a program, never mind program it.
> Wrong again.
so you say.
> It is not about how MUCH you post, but about how MUCH CRAP you post. Hell, if you have something interesting to say all day long, be my guest...You wont hear me complaining...
when i do have something interesting to say, or i can help, or i have something valid to say, i do. but in the times inbetween i still post, to show i am still here, to show the forum is still alive, to show the community hasnt upped and left.
imagine you just buy a new game, and you want to edit it. you go the the main fan site of the game, go to the forum, and see 4 posts along the lines of
"how do i program a graphics app for this program?"
"whats the file format of the sounds?"
"i've released version 8 beta 9, build 13 of my extraction program"
"super-duper technical post thing"
you might feel a little intimidated? you might even think you cant edit the game, unless your a programming god.
or would you prefer to see some friendly faces, perhaps posting some junk, but answering any valid questions?
> Did it ever occure to you that the word "bandwith" was used in a different context then just the number of kbytes going through a wire?
yes, i did, then i thought "if he meant something other than bandwidth, he would have used a word other than bandwidth"
> No...
fine.
> There are more then enough RA2 related forums with general topics where you can play the frustrated teenager as much as you want.
ahhh, you think your superiour to me now, and that i'm some poor little stroppy kid. yeah, great. thanks. i just sit here, and shout, and insult people, do i swear as well? yeah, i must. and i attack every thread. and i start flame wars too. anything else i do? do i look at people, and stare? do i walk around with a hooded jumper late at night and look intimidating? perhaps i mug little old ladies too?
i'd like to know how you can justify calling me a frustrated teenager. maybe your middle names are sherlock and holmes?
and yes, i suppose you have every right to ask me to leave and post somewhere else, while i have absolutly no right to be here, being an innocent end user, i obviosuly shoudlnt be privvy to anything on this "techinical" forum.
and since its your forum, you have every right to ask me to leave.
o.. wait.. its not your forum? you dont have absolute control over my destiny?
> There are however, very, very few RA2 related technical forums.
so you just want to kidnap this one. ok. fine.
> As moderator on the Eclipseforum (general modding forum), I do tolerate meaningless postings like yours, but I wouldn't here on the XCC forum.
well.. if your moderator there and you do tolerate them
and your not moderator here but you dont tolerate them...
hmmmmm
> But then again, i'm no moderator here either, so I have no other solution then to complain in public...
yes, i suppose saying "whats your e-mail / icq" or "contact me please" is just way too much hassle, and its easier to turn up and say "stop posting sh*t, this is my forum, i want it, i want you to leave, its technical your not"
if you really have a problem then posting something like
"please cut down on the less relevant topics"
is much nicer and more sensible than your o-so-friendly approach.
