How about making it optional then? I personally have sought a solution to this problem for the past 3 months (honest!) and have found no way to convert a large number of files to a unified pallete. BS SHP bulider does not have this problem, which is how I now make my SHPs from 3D.

There is another way, actually, but it involves software that is discontinued and cannot be obtained legally (JASC Image Robot).

Oh, I see. That makes sense.
How about the mixer first converts the PCX data to desired pallete, and AFTER that the 0 color is set as background. If it's a big performance hit, then make this optional too.
